A Small Mid-Century Swedish Apartment Packed with Personality - Home Design Ideas

Welcome to Home Design Ideas . Today we will share for you about A Small Mid-Century Swedish Apartment Packed with Personality. 'Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get' goes the famed line from Forest Gump. And I like to make sure that this blog offers some surprises. While this might not be 'out there' in terms of the building itself (after all, in the past I've shown everything from a tiny house on wheels to a home in a converted fire station ), stylistically thinking, this mid-century home is a little different from the other properties I've shown lately.  It may be small (269 f2 / 25 m2) but this studio apartment in the heart of Stockholm has everything you need to feel comfortable: a cosy bed, sitting room area, dining table, kitchenette and balcony. The 1930s apartment is also packed with personality (I'm looking at the blend of mid-century modern and vintage furniture (note the red chairs - a running theme i...

A Traditional Swedish Cottage by the Sea with a Splash of Colour - Home Design Ideas

Welcome to Home Design Ideas . Today we will share for you about A Traditional Swedish Cottage by the Sea with a Splash of Colour. A few summers ago, my family and I had the pleasure of visiting Saltsjöbad , a beautiful area in the Stockholm archipelago. I was bowled over by the nature, but also found myself captivated by how locals can whizz into central Stockholm by boat to go the theatre, shop - or even commute to work! Imagine that?  Perhaps that's why this charming traditional red and white cottage caught my eye today? Nestled in the woods, the pretty abode feels a world away from civilisation - and yet a boat bobbing on the dock means Sweden's capital city is within easy reach. From the exterior you'd guess that the interior is furnished using antiques, vintage finds and family heirlooms with a traditional touch. But it's full of surprises! Let's take a peek inside to discover more.  The black open-style kitchen has a contemporary touch - and the gree...

Welcome to Home Design Ideas . Today we will share for you about Lisa's Swedish Family Home with Soothing Green . Hello friends, how are you this fine Friday? I have lived in Sweden for over twenty years, and I still find it hard to grasp just how long this country is. Today, I'm excited to share Lisa's home in Piteå in the far North - some 1450 kilometres (900 miles) away from Malmö in the South.  Lisa lives with her live-in partner Erik and their two children Seth and Sonja. Their lovely home has a soothing green theme throughout, which has been complimented with touches of beige and cream as well as plenty of different types of wood.  Look closely and you'll also spot stainless steel shelving (a very on-trend material right now), William Morris wallpaper, old doors repurposed as a headboard and other wonderful touches!  Välkommen inside Lisa's lovely home!  Such a lovely home. I really love the tones - I find green so soothing, do...

Before & After: A Dated Danish Home Gets a Fresh and Vibrant Makeover - Home Design Ideas

Welcome to Home Design Ideas . Today we will share for you about Before & After: A Dated Danish Home Gets a Fresh and Vibrant Makeover. Often when you look at pictures of interiors the design looks so effortless, almost as if someone has waved a magic wand and everything has just fallen into place. Anyone who has carried out a makeover by hand will know this is far from the truth (the sheer labour of love that went into our cottage bedroom this winter remains etched in my mind!). Halfway through you might wonder why on earth you've taken the project on, and the result might not always be perfect (speaking for myself here!) but the connection you feel with your home afterwards makes the work feel completely worthwhile! Artist  Katrine Brandt and her husband bought an old brick house (known simple as No.14) in Denmark and took on the task of updating it by hand, with sustainability at the forefront of their minds. Starting many of the rooms again from scratch, the pair ha...
